Samantha Schaffner
PhD Student
Department of Medical Genetics
Samantha graduated from UBC with a BSc Hons. in Biology in 2016, and is currently pursuing doctoral training in Medical Genetics under the supervision of Dr. Michael Kobor. Samantha's work focuses on identifying lifestyle factors (including diet, stress, and toxic exposures) that shape the neuroepigenome during early development and neurodegeneration. She uses omics-based approaches to investigate effects of environment on the epigenome and transcriptome of individuals genetically predisposed to neurodegeneration, across a variety of model systems from tissue culture to human cohorts. This work will help identify lifestyle prevention strategies and/or early biomarkers for neurological disorders.
