Department of Microbiology and Immunology
Faculty of Science
Dr. Ravi Holani's research aims at understanding how micronutrient deficiencies in pregnant mothers impact early life immunological development of infants, and whether such immunological adaptations may influence susceptibility to metabolic disorders later in adulthood.
Born and raised in Delhi, India, Dr. Ravi Holani moved to the United States for a Master's degree in Immunology and Microbiology. To further his research interests, Dr. Holani moved to Calgary in 2015 for a PhD in Veterinary Medical Sciences. His PhD was quite multifarious, and had given him ample opportunities to learn the state-of-the-art techniques (3D organ culture, etc) as well as to lead as the President of Veterinary Medicine Graduate Student Association.
During his PhD. Dr. Holani got interested in exploring the role of diet and its impact on innate immune system development, which brought him to the Finlay lab at UBC in May 2020 as a postdoctoral fellow. When he is not at work, Dr. Holani enjoys playing ping-pong, biking and snow-boarding. Dr. Holani enjoys helping people in any way possible. In the past, he has volunteered and worked with multiple NGOs involved in teaching or taking care of differently-abled people.
