Faculty of Medicine

Dr. Carly Magee is a postdoctoral research fellow supervised by Dr. Joseph Puyat at the Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences (CHEOS) at St. Paul’s Hospital and the School of Population and Public Health at UBC in Vancouver. Carly completed her master’s degree in Psychology in 2016 and her PhD in Population and Public Health at UBC in 2022.

Carly studies population mental health, mental health services, and social determinants of mental health. Her dissertation research used linked data from multiple sources to examine the epidemiology of psychotic disorders among adolescents in British Columbia, and access to psychiatric services following diagnosis.

Carly’s postdoctoral research is funded by a partnership between Health Research BC and the BC Schizophrenia Society Foundation.  Her research is focused on assessing the extent to which access to mental health services for schizophrenia spectrum and bipolar disorders changed since the onset of the pandemic. Moreover, she will examine the extent to which social disparities in access to mental health services increased or decreased during the pandemic and with the uptake of tele-mental health services.
