Javiera is a PhD Candidate at the School of Population and Public Health in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC. The long-term goal of her program of research is to improve the supports provided to youth who are transitioning out of foster care into independent living. In particular, her PhD dissertation is a mixed methods study aimed at understanding the role of mental health in the transition into adulthood among youth who have been in care.
Javiera moved to North America after completing her undergraduate studies in Sociology at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She worked as a research assistant at Northwestern University and UBC before starting graduate school. She is a UBC PSI Scholar, and holds a CIHR Doctoral Award and a UBC Four Year Doctoral Fellowship.
