Erick is a graduate student in Bioinformatics at UBC, co-supervised by Dr. Michael Kobor and Dr. Keegan Korthauer. He holds a B.Sc. degree in Biology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Prior to joining Kobor and Korthauer lab, Erick worked at the Instituto Nacional de Cancerología in Mexico City under the supervision of Dr. Rodrigo González-Barrios. His worked focused mainly on integrative computational methods to identify coding genes and repetitive elements regulated by epigenetic molecular players through RNA-seq analyses.
At the Kobor & Korthauer lab, his research goal is to create a robust bioinformatical framework integrating genotypic, environmental and DNAme data to identify the main potential factors driving the DNAme variability in the first years of life in a methylome-wide manner, in order to improve our understanding of how and under which conditions individual genetic susceptibility and environmental exposures may work together to influence DNAme in a highly sensitive developmental period.
Outside the lab, his hobbies include doing outdoor activities, traveling, practicing archery and trying new food.
